Genre: Comedy
Average Rating: 7

This kid, Naota, lives in a semi-quiet town that happens to have this giant iron-like thing (you know, those things that you use to get rid of wrinkles in clothes. Happy Dead) in the middle of it. It blows out steam at the same time every day. Yeah, weird.

So, he's walking along one day when this weird pink-haired girl on a motorscooter, Haruko, runs over him and he goes flying. Right. Then she gets all dramatic about how she killed him and gives him mouth-to-mouth rescusitation. Then she whacks him on the head with her bass guitar. Whackiness ensues when we learn that Naota's Dad was ALSO run over by Haruko, and hired her as a housekeeper. And then we learn she's an ALIEN! But what's she here on Earth for?

Then a large robot comes out of Naota's head-- from the exact spot Haruko whacked him at. Even more weird things then happen.

FLCL (AKA Fooly Cooly) is easily one of the most bizarre and whacky anime series out there. It's like... really weird... and also really short. There are only six episodes-- and none of them make any sense whatsoever.

It's mostly just lighthearted comedy, but it's really, really bizarre comedy. Like I said, none of it even makes any sense.

The art style in it is kind of... different. I don't know, you just have to see it for yourself. Animation is fluid and all that jazz. In episodes 1 and 6 there are extremely whacky and pointless scenes that appear as black and white comics. Really really weird. There are also a lot of references and parodies of other cartoons, comics, and anime in it, including references to Gundam, Lupin III, and a part where the characters appear as South Park characters.

Although you can see a plot overview up above, there's really no plot. It was just kind of thrown in there to give it SOME point, but there isn't a point anyway. That's what makes it cool.

Unfortunately, it's only six episodes long, as I said. There wasn't any more to be done, but it kind of stinks that it's so short.

If you like anime and pointless, whacky junk, then go check out FLCL. It's nifty.
