You are Sora. You live on an island with two other kids, Riku and Kairi. You've been living on this island all of your life, and now you want to get off, so you build a raft. Then... chaos strikes.

A dark force called Heartless fall through a dark rift in the sky and attempt to kill you. You can't do anything to them with the wooden sword you had, so you flee, and you find a giant key, the key blade, that you can kill them with. You kill a few, then you're teleported to Traverse Town-- the "hub" of your adventure. You meet a couple people, then Squall Leonhart-- the protagonist of Final Fantasy VIII-- attacks you. When you come to, you learn all about the Heartless. You go to stop them, and meet up with Donald Duck and Goofy, of Disney fame. They join you and you proceed with your journey to stop the Heartless.

So what if there are Disney characters? Kingdom Hearts is awesome. Period.

It's one of those games where I just told myself, "I'm buying this now." So... I bought it. And I finished it. And again... it is awesome. Let me correct myself; it is beyond awesome.

The game is pure fun. The hack-and-slash gameplay never gets repetitive, and the AI-controlled party members are actually useful. There's a fairly large amount of worlds to visit, and although sometimes you will be sent back and forth a couple of times in some worlds, that barely subtracts from the overall greatness of this game. There's more gameplay than cut scenes, which is a plus.

There are a wide variety of abilities you can obtain and quite a few key-chains that change the look and power of your key blade. There's also a somewhat high number of magic spells to learn, including your favorite Final Fantasy spells, which can be set to three shortcut commands for easy use. Magic will be helpful later on; especially the healing spells, as the better potions of the game can be rare.

The graphics are great. The characters are very cartoon-like, and the Disney characters look like they were cut straight out of a movie; the models are perfectly accurate to whichever movie they came from.

Don't let the Disney characters stop you from playing Kingdom Hearts. It's very, very good.
